Master of Arts in Public Policy in Islam

The Masters programme in Public Policy in Islam is a multidisciplinary program that is designed to respond to contemporary social and economic challenges from an Islam-based perspective. Its primary aim is to contribute to the scholarly study and application of Islam to public policy and related issues including democracy, poverty, finance, human resources, environment and public management among other issues. Our Faculty is committed to fostering a progressive cadre of leaders, capable of and willing to govern in accordance with the noble values and ethics of Islam; promoting social and economic development; and enhancing the quality of life of all citizens regardless of race or creed.

Admission Requirements:

  • Currently working in the field of public policy or administration
  • Pursuing a career in the public service
  • Interested in building and strengthening your theoretical and practical knowledge of Islamic thought as it pertains to public policy

Course Details:

  • Total of 42 credit hours, including 6 core courses (18 credit hours), 4 elective courses (12 credit hours)
  • Thesis (equivalent of six credit hours)
  • Internship in a field of relevance to your course of study (equivalent of six credit hours)

  • Introduction to Islamic Economics and Finance
  • Intents and Objectives of the Shari'ah

  • Role of Government in a Market-oriented Economy
  • Public Funds Management in an Islamic Society
  • Institutions, Democratization, and Public Policy
  • Social Justice, Civil Society and Democracy from an Islamic Perspective
  • Contemporary Islamic Financial Markets and Institutions
  • International Relations from an Islamic Perspective

You may select one course from another masters program offered by QFIS, in lieu of one of the electives mentioned above, with the permission of the program director.
